DPLAfest 2016 has ended
Taking place in the heart of Washington, DC, DPLAfest 2016 (April 14-15) will bring together hundreds from DPLA’s large and growing community for interactive workshops, hackathons and other collaborative activities, engaging discussions with community leaders and practitioners, fun events, and more. DPLAfest 2016 will appeal to anyone interested in libraries, technology, ebooks, education, creative reuse of cultural materials, law, open access, and genealogy/family research.

Area institutions serving as co-hosts include the National Archives and Records Administration, the Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian Institution.

As Head of Web, New Media & Outreach at the Smithsonian Institution Archives, Effie Kapsalis uses technology and storytelling to provide the public meaningful experiences in the Smithsonian’s vast archives that are a vital part of American history, scientific exploration, and international cultural understanding. To increase awareness of the Smithsonian’s collections and resources, she contributes to several pan-Smithsonian outreach efforts including the Smithsonian Transcription Center, Flickr Commons, Wikipedia, and the Smithsonian App. She has more than 15 years experience managing, designing, and developing content for digital environments in museum, corporate, and educational settings. She received her master's degree in industrial design focusing on pervasive technology at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA in 2003.
